The medium is 'fabric graffiti'. Handwritten text about our bodies, on fabric. Handwritten for intimacy. On fabric because the words come from women and because, like our human bodies, fabric disintegrates over time. These large pieces of ‘fabric graffiti’ will appear in public spaces throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, installed on sides of buildings, walls, lamp posts, stores.
Anyone who identifies as a woman can submit the history of her body to the website and a curated selection of her words appear in the next public work. The intention is to create cyclical, community-supported work that continues feeding the narrative and projects unfolding. Women notice the work, participate by submitting their own body histories, and (along with the public) see their words large and on the streets.
